I'm searching for a project G that is salvageable / can be brought back from the dead.
1st Prize would be a 5 Door 300GD , but I'll look at any model that has not been ruined completely, and does not cost an arm and a leg.

The goal is to do a restoration / build with my two sons (currently 6 and 8 years old)
Any leads would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Nice Juergen, seems like yesterday that you sold your G because of space constraints with kids.
Hope you find one. Maybe give Trevor a call as well. He often buys up G's that are not that bad.

So this followed me home...

According to the vin-data card it was a november 1982 300GD.

Somewhere in its life it got a heart transplant and now sports a 280 petrol motor...

The more I dig the more work I find...and rust... lots and lots of rust... but I suppose that's the way it is.

Nice Juergen, keep the pictures coming.
Is it actually driving or a pucker rebuild project.

Hehehe - Andrew I'll send you the course detail you can send your wife to ....

The car is not running at present, it's been standing outside Waldi's workshop for the better part of 10 years.

Some parts have been stripped off, and have already been refurbished.

For now I want to try and can get the old 280 motor going and then start the rebuild... from the bottom up .

The idea is that it should not be rushed and that my two boys (currently 6 & 8 Years old) should also take part and learn with me as we go along.

We must also still decide what to do with the car (the roof is rusted quite badly) ... for example - get a 5 door shell, or cut the roof off and make it a soft top... or a bakkie.... or take the windows out and fit gull-wing doors so it can become a dedicated camper / panel van, which is what it is licensed as ... (any comments or ideas?)

I must thank Waldi and Martin for their assistance, as well as Henri Stofberg from SADC Assist that transported the G back to Pretoria and helped me get it into my yard.

Very well Jurgen! Sounds very interesting.

Most if not all 3dr's were registered as panel vans. It was a MB/registration issue at the time. My 3dr was also regsitered as a panel van as well as an occupant number of 5. So I guess it's either or. you decide. ;)

So after much deliberation and introspection I've come to the conclusion that I do not posses the ability to tackle a project of this magnitude and I want to sell it.

The 280 (carb) motor turns over and starts.
There are 2 additional front doors with windows and winders, and I also have two types of air cleaners (Original G and the flat pancake model that comes with the engine from a car)
The radiator, steeringbox and difflock master cylinders have been refurbished.
The transfer case has been removed , and I'm waiting for the front brake calipers which have been rebuilt. I also have a roofrack that will form part of the deal.

The car is registered as un-roadworthy but the papers are up to date.
Interior has already been stripped and there is allot of rust.

If anyone is interested in a project car or is looking for a parts car or donor vehicle please contact me.

Hi Jerry.

The car has been sold to one of the ckub members. Hopefully it will help to resque another G serving as a parts donor. Thanks for the interest.

Happy hunting.

Hi Jurgen,

Thanks for the reply, just for interest sake, was your G Wagon you sold a SWB or LWB.
I'm desperately looking for a SWB rear seat assembly.

It was a LWB 3 door.
The rear seat was also not an original G bench. Probably something someone had made up.
