Modern electronically injected diesels have far less waste heat than mechanically injected ones I believe. Adding an auto transmission to an older diesel and making it share the limited frontal area available for cooling was an issue. My 290 auto was a case in point - it always ran hot as opposed to my current 290 manual that has no heat issues at all.

Some of the guys placed a dedicated transmission cooler into the skid plate to get that heat out of the main radiator. Riaan and Freek know about this.

Earlier (above or elsewhere) JJ mentioned this cooler and I stated on my G it is used for engine oil. I apologize, JJ. It is indeed for the gearbox oil cooling. Dean confirmed it too. You were absolutely correct. On the later models as ours this cooler is OE. Being close to the skid plate one need to check regularly that any bend inwards of the plate can touch and chafe (spelling??) the cooler. Happened to mine and I had to have it welded. New at MB was R18k!

So what was the verdict abut the two radiators? Which one did you fit?

MB plays tricks to their clients

First they say there is no unit available anywhere and one needs to be manufactured which can take more than six months to arrive. See my posts in the opening above.

Then I started searching and with your advise I ordered in Netherlands via ebay. Just after I confirmed my order (on 25 October) and paid MB contacted Dean and say they have a unit in Germany and it is already booked out and on the way. Stating six weeks until delivery. OK, now we have two units on the way with my unit at about 25% of MB price. MB would not cancel the order.
My unit expected to arrive around 4-13 November and MB unit early December...

OK, the first unit arriving will be the lucky one.

On 6 November Dean called to say the MB radiator arrived and he will start with the installation. Two weeks from notifying us!

My unit arrived at my residence on 11 November.

I have a brand new unit for sale...

Did you manage to compare the two.
I am asking because I once bought a radiator from Germany and on arrival it is the identical unit with just the MB star ground off but at a whole lot less stress on the wallet.
