I remember they had a recall for the oil cooler at some stage. Im sure fellow owners will tap in on the post to help.
And i also recall they are very specific with their oil spec used for service.

New Oil filter and Oil every 7 000-8 000km, don't wait for the service indicator (every 16 000-20 000) it;s way too long.

Regards,

Hello and Congratulations on your G. I really hope she brings you many many happy miles.

There was a recall on some G's of that year with a sump replacement cause it was to small. This is vin number driven I think. Information is not very available. You can see more about this on this post.

The second thing to watch out for is the DPF regen cycle. The car dose not do well as a school run car. What happens is the car keeps trying to do a regen cycle and dose not complete it. This causes over fueling and the will cause the diesel to get into the oil. This brakes down the oil and then motor is no more. I do not have proof of this last problem but only from what I have heard from other members and seen some forum posts online.

Some things to make sure is you run the correct specification oil. If you don't it can cause fouling of the DPF filter in the exhaust. This is a R52000 replacement from the last quote I saw for the 350D G.

For peace of mind have the DPF removed with accompanying programming.

You DO NOT want the over-fuel as mentioned above... Ask me!

Hi Johan, thanks for the advice. Would you also suggest removing the Ad Blue? I've heard that this is necessary in order to run on lower quality diesel when doing trips in neighbouring countries. Not sure if this is true or not.

Hi Francois, Thank you for your advice. From what I've read the replacement sump was needed on the pre 2013 models. However Ill check with MB to find out if my vehicle has the larger sump.

Good day all, can anyone recommend a Mercedes Benz dealership in Gauteng that has the knowledge of these issues and who knows how to service g wagons properly or is there any specialist independent workshop catering for G wagons that I can take mine to to get an independent assessment of the vehicle? Sometimes the mainstream dealerships aren't that clued up on these issues.

This is very true . The dealers are sometimes not the best.

Please be careful when doing your DPf and add blue delete. If this is done wrong you can also grenade your motor. I have heard some horrible stories. They like to delete all alarm codes of the ECU so when there is a fault you are unaware.

I regret doing mine.

With the correct ECU programming you will be fine. Speak to Enduro Gearbox in Alrode. Dean 073 8853464. Welcome to mention my name.

He did for me
- Gearbox rebuild
- ECU programming (and correcting programming on DPF removal done by others)
- Turbo replacement
- Service.

Thought it interesting to note that an A1 service at MB in Sandton is now R18k. Pretty much only oil change with filters for both engine & gearbox.
If anyone can recommend a nearby (Sandton, Edenvale) indi for these diesels please share.
Especially if as per recommendations I'm going to also do mine much more often from now - Thanks JJ.

I heard that in the US you can get oil changes done at Walmart while you go shopping. Maybe that's why they get such high milage out of their cars.
