Not many people know, but MB Tex, the cloth of the era, also fitted to some W123 globally, was woven by HexTex in Worcester, South Africa . My brother helped do that as his apprentice job, the artisan was a neighbour up our street. This MB Tex was exported to global vehicle assembly plants. My brother also, while conscripted, helped with the stress testing of the Buffel infantry vehicle, developed from the 406 or 416 Unimog. He later helped build Buffels and did service and maintenance on them.

I don't know, as I haven't had contact with them in more than forty years. The people involved then have all passed away. Your best bet would be to call HexTex and ask.
