Before you replace the shut off valve perhaps your slow shut-off is caused by the little piggy back valve that sits on your ignition key barrel that likes to get gummed up? There are two small vacuum tubes connected to it, that run through the firewall after which one goes to the vacuum valve on...
I drove Maun - Chobe via Savuti in a 461 twice - once with a trailer where I stopped to let the standard Sachs front shocks cool down, and once without a trailer where I did not have the issue. The trailer caused the car to porpoise in combination with the corrugations. I would suggest to stop...
That sounds weird but on the old steel wheel G's the outer face of the rim faced inwards ie towards the door which made the load point of the wheel on the bracket, very close to the door.
I am not sure of your G, but when alloy wheels first came out they mounted them "fair face" outwards which...
Many thanks my friend. So its like a little derrick crane suspending the rear of the gearbox? And would the adjustable gimble be some sort of pre- load?
Thanks Alan. Useful info.
Can you guess as to why the adjustable turnbuckle?. The bracket makes me think of an engine hoist - ie it suspends the back of the gearbox
I am going to try and make a bracket to suit the 711.113 gearbox i have in there.
Those SY mounts dont look fresh at all!
I
You dont by any chance build road bridges?
But yes you are right - i will try and work out where to connect this “sprinkaanpoot” to my non standard 711 gearbox.
PS why do you think it has that adjustable vertical gubbin on it? As if it adjusts how much mass can press on the rear mount?
Re your first point - if i look at that device in Van's photo, perhaps it can resist a little vertical movement even though it has a gimbel as if it constrains the engine - gearbox unit into a radius around the output flange (as per arrow and circle). This movement is compensated in the centre...
My issue is only under load. Cruising is very quiet and smooth. Someting twists and touches and resonates to chassis. If only i could work out what sort of movement that grasshopper leg is meant to catch.....
I am trying to get rid of a very loud vibration when this G is lugging - typically when changing gear upwards at sub ideal revs it sounds like the engine is lying directly on the chassis as if high torque loads makes something misalign and rub. I have hunted all the usual suspects and as far as...
I think you are correct suggesting that it is a converted panel van. The roof lining, aftermarket windows, no rear bench or bench mountings, no rear seat belt mounts, aftermarket side panels and carpet certainly suggest it. It is very similar to my first G - but I know that mine ended up...
Day 3 was very pleasant. I ate the dust of a pretty blonde girl that is zippy on two wheels - my daughter joined me. Seweweekspoort was closed because of flood damage but on two wheels it was no problem. Turned right and went down Bosluis pass and on to Gamka dam. Fox (Google him as he is a...
